@MisterBoring This is why you gotta center the entire concept around specific PB pics, to the point where ‘oh no, I cannot find an image of them wearing the right color’ means that you have to start from scratch. (Edit: do not actually do this)
-
@MisterBoring Try ChatGPT! Just give it a prompt something along the lines of “this is what my character looks like and their personality, can you suggest some actors/actresses that could play this part?”. It’s helped me expand upon my small list of PBs.

I have never… ever… drawn as complete a blank as I have for a played by for my character here compared to anywhere I’ve ever played before.
Like, ugh.
I would advise going on pinterest, finding art, and using that. The obsession with living actors is weird to me. I’ve done it, and it seems like way more trouble than it’s worth. If something doesn’t fall in my lap in about ten minutes of searching, it’s artstation and pinterest time.

@MisterBoring The internationally recognized rules for PBs on WoD games say you’re required to pick between Jason Momoa from 15 years ago or, uh, that one redheaded latex model from 15 years ago.
-
@GF Or Christina Hendricks.
-
We still haven’t had a Jensen Ackles!!
-
@Tez Up the alt limit and I’ll accept that challenge!
-
The question I have is:
Have you gotten the Tom Hardy who’s 6’ tall, or 6’2”, or 6’4”?
And how much BEARD does he have?
-
@SpaceKhomeini I don’t think so! Which means it’s wide open for you
-
And two other people at the other height points.
-
I mean why stop there? There can be 7ft Tom Hardy.
-
@Smile Only if he buys the giant merit.
-
So which books are good to have for this place and where can you get them? I dabbled in nWoD many moons ago but fucked if I remember anything except that mage seemed hella hard.
-
@bear_necessities The books we use are all listed here, and they’re all linked to their DriveThruRPG listings.
-
@Roz Thanks! I completely missed this while I was going through the wiki

I’m at the point where I’d just pay someone to make the character for me.
I can never tell if my issue is trying to read large books in .pdf formatting and that’s the biggest hurdle or if I’m just getting too old WoD.

@Testament if you have a concept that you’re excited about, then folks can usually help with the numbers and merits–though if it’s been a long time since you’ve played and you are wanting to have maximum dice and minimum failure due to experiences around inclusion and people writing you off that might be harder to overcome mentally. My experience is that people don’t really care too much about your rolls and are very kind about it. You don’t need to come out of the chute badass–most people won’t. But I know that can be a really hard mental block to overcome for a LOT of WoD players esp. if they’re used to high XP games.
I will say that the game culture is very different from the standard WoD before, so that’s not super a big deal (and it’s a low XP game anyway). I’m not the best numbers person but I’m always willing to try to help as long as it’s a system I’m somewhat familiar with. (which alas, is not demon or mage, but tbh I’ve been won over to the side of mages being really nifty)
Numbers won’t make the character come alive though, nor will they win you inclusion, and this it’s a very cross-sphere game. So I would say keep that definitely in mind with choosing concepts over being different for differences sake, or putting roadblocks in the way of connecting with folks, unless you can do that ICly in a way that’s still OOC engaging to others. That’s often kind of different to the classic WoD game, even some of the newer games (so not talking about the 90s here).

Mage is great! And 2/3 of the people we ban. But it’s great!

@mietze I really like what I’ve read from Demon, especially since it doesn’t hop right into your boilerplate Judeo-Christian imagery.
But since it’s a totally new splat to me, it’s just finding enough time to absorb not only the lore of the splat but also whatever changes have happened since the last time I played WoD.
So on the one hand I like what I’m reading, but on the other I’m just like “okay I’d just like to play at this point”.
