The last thing I want is Google giving me an AI summary of my TS.
I think if enough of us dedicate ourselves enough, we could finally break AI for good.

it’s super sketch and not okay to lie about anything to get TS
but simultaneously
@howyadoin said in MU Peeves Thread:
There is a prohibition on relationship roleplay with characters that have been in the game for less than two weeks. The rule applies even to returning players playing a new character.
this is a weird rule for a game to have

I suppose it might make sense on a game where new characters explicitly can’t have known each other previously… but I imagine it’s more likely a case of a staffer with more than a few bad experiences crying “enough is enough.”
-
@Roz Yeah - I didn’t want to go on the “good vs. bad policy” side quest, because the policy really isn’t any part of the issue in this scenario.
For, you see, “Pat” also broke the rule with players who were willing to break the rule. Or who at the very least weren’t looking to verify with an obviously new character that they weren’t breaking the rule.
But “Pat” wasn’t satisfied and couldn’t be happy limiting themself to just those players who were fine with being complicit.
“Pat” just had to also pursue players who were actively trying to follow the rule, and manipulate them.

I think it’s a good rule. It prevents a couple things simultaneously:
- Newbies being hounded out the gate for TS
- The game turning into a “sex game” because people join just for that and ignore everything else. A 2 week pause means you need to focus some on story first.
That said, maybe I’m just prude, but I can’t help but victim blame Pat’s e-bedmates a little. Because you couldn’t be deceived about someone being on the game for under two weeks if you yourself were waiting at least two weeks to get to know another player/character before you jump to TS.
In terms of outrage if not enforcement, the spirit of the rule matters a little more than me than the rule itself. And idk guys. Like how indiscriminate are you being that you manage to get “tricked” by someone running through half the who list in half a month? When are you finding enough time for proper introductory scenes and flirting in between? For this to work, a substantial portion of the playerbase would already have to be treating the game like an orgy.

it’s not going to prevent either of those things, and people having shippy RP early isn’t what turns a game into a sex game.
plus now if someone even just mixes up dates and the other person gets super toxic on them, there is leverage hanging over them to not report bad behavior to staff.

yeeeeeeah this all just sounds slut-shamey. you’re literally like “well if you hadn’t been so slutty to jump into TS so fast, you wouldn’t have gotten lied to.”
-
The way you prevent your game from becoming a sex game is just… Don’t make it a game focused around sex? I know L&L is popular and might be a place where you have to worry about people jumping into relationships but it’s pretty easy to make a game where the draw of themes and content of the RP itself isn’t just relationships. I get that your average MU player might try and make any random game into their personal sandbox regardless, but hassling people for relationships is bad behavior whether or not the target has been in game for 2 days or 6 years, so just make that the bannable behavior and keep open lines of communication with new players as they get settled in.
ETA: also in this age of slower RP a 2-week ban can still mean someone’s second rp scene is sex based, 2 weeks is nothing.
-
@spiriferida For L&L, really play up the politics, intrigue, animosity between rival families, and management aspects to the level that no one has time to knock boots on screen.

Demand characters have so many administrative skills, they become virtually unfuckable.

Joke’s on you, I’m into that shit
-
@Tez The Administrator’s Thinly Veiled Fetish! That means every time you interact here…🫣

My question is, if a game is going to have a policy that forbids getting into a relationship with another character that hasn’t been around for more than two weeks yet (and they can have whatever policy they want), surely there would be a way for the other player to check the actual sheet date of that character’s creation… right? SURELY?
I’m not entirely sure what I’d do if someone spanked me for flirting stupidly at my friend’s character on day 13, admittedly.
And yeah, note that this is unrelated to people lying, that sucks.
-
@Muscle-Car Why do you think I’m always so eager to fork threads?
-
@howyadoin this person seems like a creep & liar who needs a solid dose of the banhammer but I never think OOC lying is okay with or without hardons

Could be worse. Could give it to Gemini Notebook and have it generate a podcast with two fake people talking about your TS.

TIL that shibari with Red Tape is a thing.

I’m somewhat baffled they don’t just go to sex games or Gdoc porn with a friend but…idk I am not an expert in these things.
The ethics of lying to get into someone’s virtual pants aside (always wrong, always creepy)…
If someone is desperate enough to be a fucking weirdo about it, even the sex MUs and Gdoc porn aren’t necessary. Every time I see the bizarre lengths that people go to get TS, I’m like, “…Y’all know AO3 is free, right? Like, you can read a nearly infinite number of horny words with basically zero effort. Same with Imaglr. Or with PornHub. You can go have a wank without bothering anyone, if you go do it over there.”
But I dunno. I just think it’s funny that there’s some part of my brain pointing out that not only is their behavior morally wrong, it’s also inefficient.

As a(n honest) fucking weirdo about it, I am randomly reminded of that one NYC CoD game (not the Ares one, but I forget what the name was) where someone got extremely heavy-handed about my WerewolfLawyer chargen build, then heavy handed leading the first scene to the smut, then (allegedly) got extremely ick’d out by me trying to recruit other people to make a pack where they insist I telegraphed the implication that smut happened on channel.
Zany shenanigans were afoot, I just bounced entirely.
Now only the coolest of kids get my smut, after taking an intensive multi-choice questionnaire. Good Luck!

isn’t the, uh…point of TS that it’s still collaborative writing, tho?
not that I would know, Innocent and Pure Lamb of Jesus’ Pasture that I am.
