Word. I recently had a character’s outfit referred to as weird in meta. It was pants. It was some pants.
what the hell
@crawfish Oh?
I hate unthematic sexism because first someone rps about something unthematically sexist and then other people rp about how terrible the first unthematically sexist thing was but the fact is NONE OF THAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PLACE STOP MAKING ME TRY TO SQUARE THE TOTAL NONSENSE OF MISOGYNY WITH THEMATIC RP AHHHH
NONE OF OUR CHARACTERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS, IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE IN WORLD
I wish I were out there on the grid stopping this in its tracks whenever it appears like a goddamn animated paperclip
@sao This is something that drives me a little bonkers. Usually I have my PC ask them stuff like “wow that’s so weird, why do you say that?” Or “gee, I wonder why that person would have said something so nonsensical, were they drunk or something?” If the player is new i might point out some of the cultural help.
But I’ll only have him do that maybe twice. After that it veers into the uncomfortable place of me as non staff telling someone they’re playing wrong. So if someone really has a hard on for “guys don’t like me bc I’m a big strong woman instead of a dainty morsel like a lady should be” or someone ignoring a female character of higher rank and knowledge to listen to someone of lower expertise but who has a penis i just ignore/don’t engage.
Its not fun to constantly have to correct cultural canon esp when the other person delights in implying that you are mean being mean to them IC. That can be a little or a lot fun sometimes with the right person but usually it isn’t so much after the first time.

I don’t even entertain that sort of super anti-thematic thing IC; I tend to just go straight to the OOC of “oh actually maybe you don’t know but that’s not a thing in this world.” I understand that not everyone feels comfy doing that, though.

Someone once commented on how bold a choice it was for Aureth, a blond man with fair skin, to be wearing pink.
To this day I regret not going OOC to ask what they meant.
@sao Pink is over. It’s sage green season.
@Tez THEY GO TOGETHER.
@farfalla Does that mean it’s still pastel season?
@sao Let’s be clear, everyone’s got a little pink in them.
@crawfish I can’t tell if that was literal, or if we’re ordering how we want our steak done.
Sure, let’s say it’s steak.
My STEAK was not ON DISPLAY
all I know is that I want steak now
@crawfish Look, I haven’t had lunch yet and I’m hungry.
