      SEASON: Redemption
      LAUNCH DATE: February 24th
THEME: Alternate Reality Western (not set in the real world)

Redemption began as a small mining camp in the new province of the Northern Reach. With the recent completion of the railroad and rail station, the town has seen a boom as the mines have brought in more revenue, the ranches have seen expansion and prosperity, and explorers have continued to push further north into the forests, foothills, and mountains to the north. But with great prosperity and growth comes an influx of new people which brings not only possibility, but problems. Clashes between established settlers and newcomers, big companies and those they’ve pushed aside or who want the resources that they can provide, outlaw gangs and the law, and people and the very elements and environment are common.

Whether one is coming to Redemption to find peace, running from something, seeking adventure, wanting to make their fortune, or get revenge; no one can avoid getting swept up in the conflict in one way or another. Everyone from the butcher, to the baker, to the candlestick maker is connected with one or another group vying for influence within the town. Then of course, there are the rumors, the myths, the legends. How many of them are true and how much is just folklore? Is there more to worry about in the mountains than just one another? Can anyone find their redemption in this frontier town? Or will this be the literal end of the line?

    • I'm Sorry, I Need More Books On My "To Read" Pile

      twilight sparkle nerd

      Alright, nerds.

I open this post solely for the purpose of people recommending books to OTHER people. It is not at all self-serving.

      Okay.

      Maybe a little.

      I like books.

      I’ll start us off—

Ninth House, Leigh Bardugo - take Yale University, shove a bunch of secret magical societies into it, and then add an unlikely protagonist tasked with keeping all the University weirdos in check. Murder, ghosts, dark magic, and unlikely twists.

Devolution, Max Brooks - journalistic account and interviews of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre. Engaging, terrifying. Do not recommend reading during a power outage by flashlight in the middle of the dark woods in a windstorm.

    • RE: Proving Assertions

@Pavel Oooh. I got caught-up thinking about cross-games a bit where a call on one game carries over into assumptions made in other games.

      I think the whole—

      @Pavel said in Proving Assertions:

This is about the forum in particular

—triggered my brain into think about how you make assertions about someone’s behavior (because I misread it as this is NOT about the forum in particularly, bad close-reading this morning).

In terms of the forum, what I’ve noticed is that usually, without fail, when someone comes onto the forum and makes a claim, it creates an open space for others to go, “OK, yeah. I experienced this, too.” We rarely have run into an issue where someone brings something up and the majority go “nah, didn’t have that experience.”

Collective experiences create a pattern of behavior, which I think can actually provide more “proof” than receipts. Ultimately, the they said/they said falls apart when one side of the scale outweighs the other.

      This echoes @Pyrephox’s response.

In terms of the AOA thread, I took a few days saying something because I had a lot of anxiety around “time since” and “had no proof.”

    • RE: Proving Assertions

Interrogation, vibe checks, and conversations are important.

But I’ll be super honest—if I get multiple reports from multiple sources bringing me sexual harassment claims, gaslighting claims, or stalker claims, and we talk it through and everything clicks…

I’m not really going to give the offender the same time of day. I’ll give the person 10 minutes to get their affairs in order and ban them. The one convo I do not want to have is the “I was just joking!” or “I didn’t mean it like that!” or “You don’t know my side of the story!” We did that on Savage Skies with Khalid—which I guess cost us a lot because we didn’t let his cohort corner us with counter-interrogation that included us revealing our “sources.”

Maybe that could set me up for regretting a call later, but I haven’t so far.

Semi-aside—I have liked Ares report feature. Something doesn’t feel right, you just report the whole thing and it creates a request and Staff gets all the details.

      I am angry.

I only lie about Santa Claus, or who ate the last cookie (sorry @Roadspike, IT WAS ME).

But, um… I’d really like to see logs/screenshots if you would be OK DM’ing them to me. Mostly because… I’ve been there, and I guess I want to see if things are the same as I suspect they’ve always been. If you don’t mind.

    • RE: New Concept

Random idea, and no real details beyond vague bullet points.

      Game set in current era
Lovecraftian influences has limited technology or caused it to adapt differently
Everything is 1920s in aesthetic but you can then add meaningful tech advances that allow for that alt-tech feel such as steampunk

Bake the aesthetic into the theme, but provide modern adaptations.

I am sleep deprived so could have probably presented this more eloquently.

      1920s aesthetic.
      Lovecraftian themes.

And now posted to the right thread.

    • RE: Star Wars Age of Alliances: Hadrix and Cujo

@64bitjedi This is pretty much going how it always goes. Cujo comes under attack, the game comes under attack, and instead of Cujo addressing it, he sends you. You put on airs that you’re the “safe person,” that you are there to “look out for us,” and then you tell Cujo and Cujo exacts his revenge quietly through bans, nukes, and removal of contributions.

It always goes this way, and you need to stop being his enforcer if you actually care about remediation and have him address his accusers.

He can make an account here.

You know what the next step is, because it’s the step Cujo never has taken ever since he sold the game for a fedora and Selkie had to come in and save it:

He needs to put on his big boy pants and actually address these issues to this community.
