My current MUSH pet peeve is being an ST for a WoD game and trying to come up with horrific contexts and situations, with whatever nightmare scenario that I come up with in my head immediately being outpaced by something happening in RL.
Maybe this is less of a MUSH pet peeve and more of an existential cry for help, though.
In 2020, we had to scrap/put on indefinite hiatus a major plot line on Arx involving a big bad that was looking to unleash a magical plague. Then a few months later we quickly closed out a more minor plot involving city riots.
Those weren’t the only times we’d start some story that was then followed by somewhat similar real world events, to the point that it became a running joke. So if the whole world ends up being devoured by a godkiller demon made entirely of smiling mouths, our bad.

@kalakh Don’t you put that evil on me, Ricky Bobby!
-
@kalakh Yeah, we had to stop a major plot involving the assassination attempt on a polarizing political leader in the summer of 2024. It was a real Apollo’s Gift of Prophesy moment, a bunch of others too. This hobby frightens me at times…

Apropos of nothing:
I think if people are gonna use AI to write their poses, they should disclose it on their character profile or +info or whatever. Give the rest of us a heads up, y’know?
Yikes.
-
I think if people are gonna use gen AI to write their poses they should instead drive into a lake.
-
We have people using AI to write poses, which is pretty gross.
Somehow this also makes the continued existence of people who don’t spell check their posts even more annoying.
-
I’m not saying it doesn’t happen but could someone post the pose in question? I just want to see how we know it’s AI.
-
if someone can’t even be bothered to write their poses, why should i be bothered to read them

Same. I’ve been accused of using AI even with glaring grammar errors (I’ll spell check but I use Oxford comas, …, --, and even semicolons). My grammar will never be perfect.
it’s not great to know ppl think I’m using not human programs for my very human poses. I don’t think I’m a robot… if I am I feel like I m missing some perks.

I’m going to use chatgpt to write all my replies on this forum.

– will be ripped from my cold dead hands

@tsar THANK YOU.
I have been using it since ChatGPT wasn’t even a twinkle in Eliza’s eye. It’s MINE. You can’t HAVE IT.
-
I have a question. What do you get out of MUSHing, a hobby wherein you write paragraphs at people in a turn-based format, when you’re not actually doing the writing? What’s the end goal there?
-
@somasatori Validation, probably. A certain number of MU*ers don’t do this because they love the craft of writing RP, they do it because they want people to notice them and like them.
-
@Ashkuri God there’s so many easier ways

I think assuming Oxford commas, semicolons, and mdashes are signs of AI writing is ridiculous and stupid. I am not the one who compiled a list of poses from someone and ran them through an AI “detector”, either, which is why I didn’t point any fingers.
The mere POSSIBILITY of it happenings sparked my comment that if you’re gonna do it, just let people know.

I can understand people using it as a translator. From what little I’ve seen, it seems to localise better than your bog-standard Google Translate might. I’ve not seen it being used as such in a MUing context, but I might actually be open to it in that instance.

@Ashkuri Preach. They’re not here to play the game, they’re here to play the players. New tech, but not new behavior.
