I was just made aware that there are people out there that are like ‘who cares I’d rather read chatgpt vomit than one liner bar RP’ and I’m going to fucking crash out again. YOU ARE INSANE??? I realize all I do in this thread is just yell and be unproductive about shit. Sorry BMD I just get so fired up. If your game policy is “you can use a lil to tidy your grammar :)” you realize you will push away human writers more and more and more until there is nothing but LLMs RPing with LLMs and a human making some minor decision to drink from a glass or something.

no not really i’m just trying to help a brother out. I don’t understand why anyone would want to RP with AI in a MUSH format. Like if you do that, just… train a GPT.

I’d rather RP with a person with the worst speller/grammar than AI.

I still think about a person I played with 10-15 years ago who had terrible spelling and odd grammar sometimes but they drove plot and were fun to RP with.

Agree. Half the time, my brain doesn’t even register other people’s errors because we’re having fun.

I’m okay with this solely because I’m betting even fuckin’ Word’s spellcheck has copilot’s dick in it somewhere. If you’re putting your shit into ChatGPT and getting it to rewrite it for you, that’s a no, but using a spellchecker that has been infested with AI nonsense? I’m more inclined to forgive.

The thing that annoys me is that when people claim they just use it for spellcheck or whatever, 90% the time they’re lying. I know a whole bunch of people who claim they just use it for polish and then will turn out 10 paragraphs of the most boring slop imaginable. It’s just, idk. It’s like how cheaters sound — “it was just one kiss! It meant nothing!”

Anyway I think I vaguely suspect the game @yam’s referring to, and its community has a powerful stink already even though it hasn’t launched yet. Highly doubt you’re missing out on anything if my guess is right.

@Kestrel You’re probably right; I’m out of the loop. I use Grammarly in my real-life writing solely for the purpose for which it was originally made, but now it has all these generative “features” that I ignore. I imagine it’s probably pretty easy to use them and still feel justified in claiming it’s just for spelling and grammar.

Grammarly is the tool I assumed was being referenced without anyone saying it directly. I used to use it just as a spelling and grammar-checker, too, but it’s been completely taken over by AI ‘features’ in ways that people seem to feel gives them cover when they say ‘oh I didn’t rewrite this with AI I used just Grammarly’. My friends in Beelzebub, you had Grammarly rewrite it and AI it up, that is what happened.

I have no doubt there’s more going on under the hood with Word these days than just spell-checking in ways where I don’t want to turn it loose on something I wrote but I haven’t felt like the red under-lines are doing anything too weird…yet.

@Third-Eye Yeah, even with Grammarly, there’s a vast difference between it catching when I type “slient” instead of “silent” or forget to capitalise Instagram, and getting it to rewrite my shit entirely. I have RP partners to tell me my writing is crap; I don’t need to pay a subscription service to do it for me.

@Pavel As a writer, I am not the least ashamed of using ProWriteAid (which is similar to Grammarly) to catch typos and blatant grammar errors. It also offers AI spicing up services, and those I’d be ashamed of using.

Am I alone in that there’s pretty much nothing an LLM could pick up that I couldn’t on my own with a simple re-read?

@Juniper The point is less that we the previous posters use LLMs and more that we use spelling and grammar checkers that have had LLMs shoved into them.
