@Jennkryst @Snackness Guess she’s gonna have to do it, again.
@hobos It isn’t anyone’s job to make you feel like you’re intentions have been seen as good, here. All you’ve done is pour salt on many people’s wounds. This has been communicated to you very clearly. That is the only indication many of us have of who you are. No amount of laying that guilt at these people’s feet or whining about forgiveness will change that. Altering your behavior will change that.

I didn’t know who Hella was. lmaoooooo
I’ll use the own snip that somebody else used yesterday.

The rules of this place mean I cannot say to you the things I want to, right now.
Just to confirm for you. I don’t ever want anything to do with you ever, ever again.
-
Look guys, I’m all for like, calling people out and stuff. But if you’re going to berate him for leaving it be or not on one hand, then we also shouldn’t dogpile on it.
-
@Meg I don’t care.
ETA: I remain unconvinced that this individual didn’t come into a group of people still hurting over being ousted from their community in order to bask in that.

You could be blocked, or it could be literally what it said: You need to share a server or be on their friend list to send DMs. Lots of people have that restriction on their accounts to counteract spammers and such.
You can turn that restriction off? I thought that was just how Discord works.
… looking at the settings, doesn’t look like it actually. I assumed one could, as with other platforms. I was wrong!
It’s generally in your settings server by server. You can allow folks from some shared servers to DM you, but not others. But it’ll be in your settings on that particular server, not your general personal settings.
I believe the usual default is that if you’re on a server, others on that server can DM you. But you can turn that off. (Like I turn it off for things like emoji servers where I just want to be there for the emoji and I definitely don’t want DMs from people because those are 100% just spammers and scammers.)
This morning I tried to send people a few messages to see if I was blocked, because I genuinely did not know. I got a message like this last night when I tried to send a message over discord, and that’s why I used DMs here…
I guess this means I am blocked. I thought it only meant what it said. If it means that I am blocked then… a lot of people have blocked me now. I guess that makes things more clear.
That doesn’t mean you’re blocked. It means exactly what it says: you are not Discord friends with that person and you don’t have a shared server in common that the person allows DMs from.
But also: holy shit if you think someone doesn’t want to talk to you, don’t DM them???
ETA: Sorry, I was typing all this as intervening posts came in.

My reaction to the messaging blocked people is very restrained. I am defending myself directly from harassment. I really want him to leave me alone, and I keep telling him this at EVERY opportunity. I have wanted him to leave me alone since BEFORE this stuff happened. I do not feel like that’s dogpiling.

Yeah. There’s a general “allow people on servers I’m on to message me” setting, but there’s no “allow everyone to message me” setting. They have to be your “friend” first.

OH. I see what you mean, yeah.

Totally get the emotional investment. But @-ing someone on your blocked list is not a good look. <.<
Oh, totally right. I don’t have him blocked here, because I would not be able to see his posts and he threatened me with posting stuff. I have him blocked on other platforms, so this is the one he came at me on. Sorry for the lack of clarity there.
-
@IoleRae I get it. But you also weren’t the only one. I mean, not to name names, but admin had said to drop it and people kept it going even after. Even before he ever posted about the discord thing.
-
Speaking only for myself and only informally, I’d appreciate if we put a hold on talking to/about hobos for the time being. If you please.
-
@Pavel Will do.

Everyone, I’d like to ask that we please stop criticizing people about the hobos thing. This is an extreme situation that at least one of his victims is obviously still has a lot of personal turmoil about, so it would be cruelly ironic if we started trying to dictate their trauma response.
I think it would be more helpful to show support to the folks you’re criticizing, so they’ll understand the danger has passed and it’s okay to let the hackles down. Actually, now that I say that, I’m gonna go do it. 'scuse me.
My DMs are open if anyone needs an ear.

Hey all,
Putting my mod hat on for a moment. After talking with the rest of the mod team, we’d like to ask that you not include screenshots or links from MSB in this thread, or use this thread as a method to encourage, cheer, or organize action towards the other board. We know that people are sore about what happened, and this remains a place to vent about those events, but not to create or continue an atmosphere of cross-board drama. Thank you all!
As always, please feel free to discuss this decision in the discussion thread.

I bet the mod hat looks like a pilgrim hat
