As Hollywood on TR, I was banned because I kept pestering Troy about trying to get other staffers to quit talking crap about my character on staff channels. She told me to stop bothering her and I didn’t. It wasn’t until after I was banned did some accusations about cheating get thrown out after the fact from which I never got a chance to address/defend and only heard about 3rd hand, which I think were about looking at my own jobs as a staffer, to which, if that was a thing, wasn’t more than occasional typos of the many, many, many jobs that I handled there.

Troy: is that the dude who used the Shemar Moore pb?
      Coin: yes.
Troy: that dude was straight up cheating.

Troy: i’m glad he remembers all those details, cuz i sure as fuck don’t. but he was a fucking menace.

Troy: ask yourself why the staffers were talking shit about his character.

Troy: the game was better for it when he left. and by left we mean got kicked out. sorry not sorry.

also, as Coin, I will say, i remember Kelvin being the most metagame-y, minmax-y, Pledge-abusing, power-gaming dude in the Changeling sphere, and this was CONCURRENT (to a degree) with VASpider’s tenure there, so keep that in mind.

      cheers.

@Clarion It’s more about the grid feeling like a virtual location where Ares / web scenes just have a flatness to them that I can’t get out of my brain (even though I know they’re both just scrolling walls of text).

But in all seriousness, I could elaborate on it. I just vastly prefer the theme of nWoD changeling to oWoD changeling and think it fits the mould of a pet project of mine… which is kind of a small-town Americana murder/mystery thing. I could actually read nWoD werewolf, but I don’t wanna and I like Apocalypse more!

@GF lol, I have been ragging on this post all night in my head. Thank you for joining in because it is so ridiculous.

Also like, uwu I am an all powerful goddess but man, I don’t know how to create a world so maybe you can help me? And then we can rule it together? Despite the story clearly stating that the dark goddess of dark things forever and ever has already created other worlds! That she could go rule on her own.

Please give us the motivation for why the dark goddess herself who rules over all the land the dark touches just wants to chill and rule half of a world?

Going by the theme setup and that everyone can do it with everyone (regardless of age)… The dark goddess is willing to co-rule because the ‘pervy girl’ is putting out often enough and with a lot of creativity.

If I recall @Jumpscare did something with Evennia that has a good crafting system. I didn’t roll a crafter on Silent Heaven when I did (Simon was a disgraced med student), but it looked super cool. Maybe that might be compatible?

I could pull out my crafting code and allow you all to shred it to bits.

I’m mired in to-dos, but remind me in about a week and I’ll look into it.

i have to admit, i feel like this is a situation where it deserved at least a warning. i get that the behavior was gross. i called it out as gross.

but i think there’s a line where like, idk, i think that it wasn’t a clear cut ‘would i expect to get banned for this if it were me’ in the rules.

of course, i’m not a mod and i don’t make these calls and i understand it can be frustrating to make these calls and no call is going to make everyone happy. that’s my disclaimer. just speaking an opinion, even if it is from the minority.

tbh, I’m of the opinion that this (the ban) was warranted. Much like how some games have banned players for their behavior in other places, that felt applicable here. It was really pretty apparent, from multiple threads, that this person’s behavior has involved multiple questionable decisions and comments at best, with questionable intent attached to them.

Mm, don’t totally agree there. Games do preban, or ban based on behavior on other games, but the forums generally haven’t. I think they’re pretty different venues with different risks.

Yeah, I think I can agree with that on the surface (meaning, I trust our admins as far as this forum is concerned). I think, speaking for myself only here, that my mindset has changed on certain things, namely giving chances, especially when the scenario is: “Person X has repeatedly shown ban-worthy behavior in the past, and is clearly showing signs they haven’t changed, in the present.”

@Faraday said in What Is Alpha Anyway?:

Alpha and beta are really meant for players to provide feedback and help test things out before it’s ready. That’s why so many video games offer free alpha/beta test versions. You’re doing them a favor by trying out their half-baked game/app.

I think that this is really where I’m at:

If the main purpose of having players on the game is to test systems/theme/etc and the features are not complete, I think it’s Alpha. If the main purpose of having players on the game is to test systems/theme/etc and the features are (nearly) complete, I think it’s Beta. If the main purpose of having players on the game is to tell stories and play the game and the features are complete, I think it’s Gold/Release – even if there are still going to be additions made to the game later.

Those are just my definitions, of course, and I wouldn’t expect anyone else would stick to them (although it would be nice for me if they did).

@Polk said in What's written on the box:

Heh, the good old “What does the game need?” vs “Play what you like, friend!” dance used to frustrate me.

But I eventually found an answer. “Welcome. Tell me what you like to play, and I can help you craft an idea that matches what works here.”

I can get behind that answer because it means you are helping someone fit into the game. I know I’ve joined games and ‘played what I want’ and couldn’t get involve because most of what was going on my concept didn’t work.

@Roadspike I totally agree that there needs to be more ‘That doesn’t work lets find something along the same vein that would’ for concepts that don’t. I think it would make a lot of people more active on games.

I don’t care how well you write. If you harm people or treat them like shit, I have no interest.

Abusive behavior should never be tolerated.

That said, I’ve met plenty of RPers through the years who were perfectly nice people, but their RP was just boring because they didn’t know how to write. I’m not talking about spelling and punctuation; I’m talking about the art of making a compelling character and writing an interesting story.

MU RP exists at a crossroads between writing, improv, and gaming. Different games and/or players may value these things to different degrees, but they’re all essential IMHO. (and as with any activity involving other humans, basic social skills matter too)

My mentality is “I’m here for a good time and maybe a long time.” If I’m not interested in what’s happening, I just kinda…wander off. Or, if I really like the place, I’ll try to make my own fun right up until someone tells me “I’m doing it wrong.” Which is basically what happened with AoA and Cujo. 😛 Right now I’m between games and just waiting to see if one pops up that looks more interesting than just booting up the PlayStation.

I don’t really feel any drive to ride a game into the sun.
