@Yam said in Other People: I was def curious about how often most RPers even consider Other People’s fun. I’m so worried about other people’s fun and happiness that my therapist wishes I would just be a selfish asshole once a month.

I tend to be (I hope) rather nice, understanding and malleable as a player. I tend to yes and for the most part. Which is how one of my chars got married in a pub on a quasi-maybe-date. It leads to some great RP. I also try to go towards the funny and just see what happens. That said. I have also played a very arrogant full of himself asshole. He was a great character to play, but he also had money and power behind him so it made him more than a little insufferable. I would OOC disclaimer that as the pilot of my char, I could come up with a reason for him to be there. I can’t guarantee it’s going to be enjoyable for a few different reasons. I was also willing to tone down or full send the jerkfaceness depending on the OOC person and I did check in a lot, BUT the char was designed a certain way. If you weren’t part of his chosen few, you weren’t worthy of air in his eyes. I still had amazing RP and one of his IC best friends started as one of his nemesis at the beginning. It means I can see the ‘my guy’ as also writing for the the story line and where/how your char fits into the story.

Totalled up the number of rosters I’ve applied for – well, not pertinent to the current conversation. Answer is a lot. But. Have experienced all hues of the how to greet a roster rainbow. Not sure what the happy middle is between extreme enthusiasm and isolation.

Oh, it’s a troublesome character even if you remove the ableism. Deep in my little black heart I have this desire to app a comics game as the demon Baytor, a sort of tube with teeth that shouts “I AM BAYTOR!” a lot and does little else. [image: 47318045_2287119871301085_7913387447998742528_n.jpg?_nc_cat=110&cb2=99be929b-bd9a46d7&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=127cfc&_nc_ohc=pgzN1u7T-_kQ7kNvwHuU9aF&_nc_oc=AdlNtNIigrmBrbEXOWWKNufbWG8GLC03A0MAQ3MOo3jbxTH74JY79dgseR3laJf9C_fHfHW9ZZ5unZ_q6zx9U44-&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-1.xx&_nc_gid=ZrWMoXrBTkJyXsSMSXcdOg&oh=00_Aflm6SljyoShYagRfUzUCsTAvuNMDw3IDsSfGPO1pRHVQg&oe=69599200] This is a bad, bad idea, obviously bad. It might be okay if I made sure Baytor could only be found where it’s found in the comics, working as a bartender at a certain pub, completely easy to avoid, and treated it as a sort of NPC I depict while playing a reasonbly PC-written-PC primarily.

At some point, in a few years, someone’s gonna launch an Ares with a few AI players on async, and see how long it takes for someone to notice.

A small earth grid has been added to the game and is accepting characters for those that want to play in a “modern” theme. Information on the Earth setting and theme can be found here: https://ascensionsojourns.com/wiki/index.php/Setting_-_Freistatt,_Minnesota The Unity grid still available for play for those that want a more challenging rp experience.

@Juniper said in Neon Protocol: The elephant in the room is how Neon Protocol straight up looks like a scenario in AI dungeon. I was immediately repelled by it. This – aside from terrible AI in general, the aesthetic is very jarring with the NEON colors juxtaposed with the “small town farmer’s market flyer” sort of AI slop. I get that it’s trying for small town supernatural but definitely missing that mark. Also I get that not everyone’s an artist or adept at PhotoShop but we existed for decades without it on Mu*s, we don’t need it now.

@Kestrel Yeah, I dunno. I get putting things out there right away, but I guess I can’t really wrap my head around the idea that an emphasis on writing detracts from the immediacy of the acting. If this was just a MUD, I likely wouldn’t blink, but the game doesn’t wholly feel like a MUD at glance. I just suppose that in a medium where everything is based upon text, the writing involved is what delivers a sense of immersion and delivers that emotional impact. While yes, I’m not saying that the same can’t be done with a shorter form of writing, but I guess, something feels lost by what feels(to me, in my opinion)when that kind of rule or restriction is put into place. Maybe the word restriction is too harsh of a descriptor. Limiting, I guess. And if were to really think about it, I think what bothers more is that there feels like there’s a press on having a quick turnaround in poses. I feel something like that would be more anxiety-inducing than whether or not your pose was too wordy

Oh man, what I would give to log onto PernMUSH once more, just to look around. So many happy and bittersweet memories of the place, and how it changed over the years I played there. Up till about a year before COVID, the last ‘owner’ of the database kept it online; then it dropped connection, and I haven’t seen it since.

@Jennkryst Answers to your thoughts: You will have to hand write your own custom rules for PVP situations, as PVP actually flies in the face of the game design. One of the core conceits of the game is that only one person should roll in any given action, and that it should almost always be the player. I don’t feel that would be a good idea, since almost all of the cyphers have a level that is variable. Two cyphers of similar level have a similar effect, but one takes up more space in your “cypher slots” sounds like something potential players would complain about in the long run. If the staff is doing their diligence to create situations where cypher turnover is happening regularly, there’s no need to put further constraints on number of cyphers owned / used. Nope. Artifacts are not cyphers, so they should factor into that. That said, Artifacts are meant to be rare, so again, if staff is doing their diligence on that, you don’t have to worry about a lot of them existing, especially if you use plot to write them out of the story. (That big laser gun artifact you found is actually the power supply for this one thing over here, and when you install it, you can’t get it back. Sorry.) Also nope. See staff doing a responsible job of controlling the flow of these things into the game. (Also if it’s basically the Numenera equivalent of a Ford Focus, do we really care if there are bunch of them?)

@mangosplitz said in How to mitigate Bleed (player vs character emotional response): So it’s not like we need to have staff actually DO anything to help This. When I talk about this issue, there’s often a response as if the suggestion of being supportive means ‘turn the MU into a mental health clinic’ when what I mean is, give your dial a twist towards ‘supportive friend’ and away from ‘cop and judge.’ If somebody at my tt game is near-tears we don’t all start in on how they’re too attached and it’s a flaw in them as a player, we meet them where they’re at. This actually takes no more energy than telling them they’re doin’ it wrong would.
