While I agree with the sentiment, I want to change the wording of this just a tiny bit.

Most players come to have fun. And that should absolutely include staff. It’s a game, after all, being on it should be fun. And that’s where a lot of this talk about staff capacity and limits etc, falls flat: it seems to forget that rather obvious point.

If you, game runner/player/staffer/whateverer, are not having an appreciable amount of fun then something needs to change. Fun is the whole idea.

ETA: To keep the thrust of this back with the ‘STrP vs Prp’ discussion: IF something isn’t fun, players won’t do it. Some players just always find running things fun, some players need encouragement for it to be fun, and some players will never find it fun. If you, as a game runner, can find a way to make the first two categories of player happy then you’ll get more stuff run by players.

What makes a game one or the other can be pretty arbitrary imo, and I do think there’s sometimes a bias here as to the difference that isn’t necessarily shared with the rest of the hobby.

Arx has as many coded systems as some RPI MUDs, for example, but they call themselves a MUSH. It’s a pretty hazy line.

I think most people would agree that if the focus of the game is on MMO-style gaming, it’s a MUD, and if it’s roleplay it’s a MUSH/MUX/whatever, the latter distinctions depending on the codebase you’re using. Since Evennia can be used to make either a MUD or a MUSH it’s basically whatever you want to call it, depending on the crowd you’re trying to attract.

After discussion with the full team (WELCOME, @junipersky!!) we are agreed that:

We will be reinstating the log that was deleted. It will be placed behind spoiler tags.

Going forward we would ask that logs – especially logs of SUCH LENGTH – be placed behind spoiler tags with some sort of context or TL;DR so that people know what they are in for if they choose to view.

We will continue to discuss and review when and if we have any situations in need of revisiting this stance.

Agreed. Even the most well-thought-out story-based consequence can feel like a capricious punishment rather than an interesting story moment if there’s no communication and the player is blind-sided.
