@SpaceKhomeini If it’s someone I’ve actually had no contact with and the tone is sharp, I take it as flirting for PVP so… if you open that door, don’t let me hear any shit when I walk through it.

@Kestrel Yeah, I dunno. I get putting things out there right away, but I guess I can’t really wrap my head around the idea that an emphasis on writing detracts from the immediacy of the acting. If this was just a MUD, I likely wouldn’t blink, but the game doesn’t wholly feel like a MUD at glance. I just suppose that in a medium where everything is based upon text, the writing involved is what delivers a sense of immersion and delivers that emotional impact.

While yes, I’m not saying that the same can’t be done with a shorter form of writing, but I guess, something feels lost by what feels(to me, in my opinion)when that kind of rule or restriction is put into place. Maybe the word restriction is too harsh of a descriptor. Limiting, I guess.

And if were to really think about it, I think what bothers more is that there feels like there’s a press on having a quick turnaround in poses. I feel something like that would be more anxiety-inducing than whether or not your pose was too wordy

      Answers to your thoughts:

You will have to hand write your own custom rules for PVP situations, as PVP actually flies in the face of the game design. One of the core conceits of the game is that only one person should roll in any given action, and that it should almost always be the player.

I don’t feel that would be a good idea, since almost all of the cyphers have a level that is variable. Two cyphers of similar level have a similar effect, but one takes up more space in your “cypher slots” sounds like something potential players would complain about in the long run. If the staff is doing their diligence to create situations where cypher turnover is happening regularly, there’s no need to put further constraints on number of cyphers owned / used.

Nope. Artifacts are not cyphers, so they should factor into that. That said, Artifacts are meant to be rare, so again, if staff is doing their diligence on that, you don’t have to worry about a lot of them existing, especially if you use plot to write them out of the story. (That big laser gun artifact you found is actually the power supply for this one thing over here, and when you install it, you can’t get it back. Sorry.)

Also nope. See staff doing a responsible job of controlling the flow of these things into the game. (Also if it’s basically the Numenera equivalent of a Ford Focus, do we really care if there are bunch of them?)

So it’s not like we need to have staff actually DO anything to help

This. When I talk about this issue, there’s often a response as if the suggestion of being supportive means ‘turn the MU into a mental health clinic’ when what I mean is, give your dial a twist towards ‘supportive friend’ and away from ‘cop and judge.’ If somebody at my tt game is near-tears we don’t all start in on how they’re too attached and it’s a flaw in them as a player, we meet them where they’re at. This actually takes no more energy than telling them they’re doin’ it wrong would.

Which is very telling, in a way. It would be no trouble at all for a banned person to slip back into a game, provided they could change their bad habits and not tell anyone/not pursue the same dramas and chars they got banned over.

Can confirm, have done it. I don’t advise it, but if you’ve made a genuine change or the behaviour isn’t usual for you then it’s relatively easily done.

I read somewhere that you multiply the peak connections by 2.5 to get a good estimate of the total playerbase, but I have no idea where I read that, and it doesn’t apply to places that allow multiple alts, so take this info with a grain of salt.

But in the bigger picture, there’s so much roleplaying going on in the world that there’s no way it’s going away anytime soon. Even after the world collapses, you can guarantee there’ll be players in a cave rolling dice and telling stories in between their battles with radioactive spiderlocusts.

My confession is that in the past two years, I’ve played on almost every game, but I rarely last longer than two weeks.

I just like trying new things.

Also, funny story, there’s one game that I’d like to try, but its canon contains real-world events that I was a part of IRL. Which means I’m technically canon in that game. So I think I’m a little too close to the source material to play there, haha.

This one is a bit more of an OOC amusement, and technically not MU* related, but it still makes me laugh, so I will share.

There was an RP mission going on, and there were a couple different characters along. Our two main players I will call Kaz and Quill. Kaz is still learning to fight, and as such is taken aback when a group of enemies sets on the party.

Kaz rolls really well. Remarkably well. The best kind of dice you can get well. Kaz decides to RP it as kicking one of the enemies in the balls.

Enemies have been listed by numbers, so Kaz pose identifies the target of this kick as [1]. The thing about this system is that… listing with these brackets will pull a name from the party list.

What Kaz means to pose is,

Kaz , now spun around, is seeing red. How DARE this guy try and stab him from behind! Bringing his leg back, he immediately sends his foot right into [1]'s crotch before turning and giving Quill a thumbs up for the attempted help.

      What everyone actually sees:

Kaz, now spun around, is seeing red. How DARE this guy try and stab him from behind! Bringing his leg back, he immediately sends his foot right into Quill’s crotch before turning and giving Quill a thumbs up for the attempted help.

All that stuff that @Jumpscare wrote

Holy shit, I’m in love with all this. I love the non-combat conflict system. This isn’t being used in Ares by chance is it?

Thank you! (And thank you too @IoleRae!)

Unfortunately, no, it’s not in Ares. It’s in Evennia. I played Arx before I ever touched a single Ares game, so I looked into Evennia first and somehow didn’t turn the project into a smouldering heap of wreckage after a few months. Two years later, I’m almost done coding, haha. I never expected to have made it this far.
